From the servants to the saints
Philippians 1:1
I. Servants of sin
a. Practicing sin makes you a servant of sin John 8:34
b. Whoever you give yourself to obey you become their servant Romans 6:19

II. Servants of Jesus Christ
a. Jesus did not call them servants but friends John 15:15
b. Jesus had set them free John 8:36
c. Knowing the truth had set them free John 8:32
d. Jesus had set them free from condemnation, sin and death Romans 8:1-2
e. They chose to serve Him Deuteronomy 15:12-18
f. Proudly wore the mark saying they were His servants

III. Saints in Christ Jesus
a. The word saint is used mostly as a word that shows ownership or divine claim and not character. It shows our relationship to God. Psalms 30:4, 31:23. At least 30 times God refers to the saints possessively.
b. The word saint also refers to the new life we have in Christ Jesus II Corinthians 5:17
c. He justifies us that we can be called saints Romans 3:24, 28
d. He took our sin so that we could take his righteousness II Corinthians 5:21
e. Saints are what they were but they called themselves servants
