Be known for your moderation!

 

Philippians 4:5

 

  • Moderation means appropriate, reasonableness, mild, gentle, patient, yieldedness, considerateness, kindness
  • Conflict between two Christian ladies calls for moderation
  • Joy should raise us above harshness and extremism
  • Fear and worry call for moderation

 

I.                     Moderation is to be shown

a.      By how we exercise our leadership (with our wives, our children, in the work place, in the ministry) Ephesians 6:4, I Peter 3:7, 5:2-3

                                                              i.      Gentleness

                                                            ii.      Not dealing according to the severity of laws and strict justice

b.      By how we deal with the weak

                                                              i.      Spirit of meekness Galatians 6:1-2

                                                            ii.      Serve them not ourselves Romans 15:1-2

                                                          iii.      Seeing things in their best sense or trying to understand

c.      By how we forgive those who wrong us

                                                              i.      Not seeking to avenge ourselves Romans 12:19-21

                                                            ii.      Not giving in to wrath

                                                          iii.      Patiently putting up with insult and injury Proverbs 24:17-19, 29

d.      By how we surrender our rights

                                                              i.      Suffering patiently without trying to get even either by words or deeds

                                                            ii.      Not demanding even what is due you

                                                          iii.      Meekness under provocation

e.      Keeping our passions and emotions under control Proverbs 16:32

f.        Treating people with great respect and tenderness Philippians 2:3-5

g.      Sweetness of disposition

II.                   Moderation is to be shown to all men II Timothy 2:24, Galatians 6:10

a.      To our families

b.      To our Christian family

c.      To the world

d.      So that they will see our life and want the same

III.                  The Lord is at hand Psalm 46:1, 5

a.      He is coming soon

b.      He is close by watching James 5:8-9

c.      He will revenge us Jude 15

 

Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

 

1Pe 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

 

1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

 

Pro 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

Pro 24:18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Pro 24:19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;

 

Pro 24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

 

Pro 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

 

Phi 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Phi 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Psa 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psa 46:5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Jam 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Jam 5:9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

 

Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
