Passing the Baton of Faith to the Next Generation

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deuteronomy 6:20-23 “And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?  Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.” One of the biggest responsibilities that we have in life is to pass the truth about God to the next generation.  Notice several things we learn from these verses about passing the baton of faith to the next generation: The Word of God must be in our heart. Before they can teach their children, they had to have God’s Word in their heart.  The key to changing our children is changing us.

A Model of Servanthood

The following was in this weeks reading for the students in the Our Generation Training Center. I thought it was a wonderful challenge to all of us desiring to be servants. This does not only apply to missionaries but to all of us serving the King. Missionaries should value achieving a spirit of servanthood as a high ideal and goal. Paul often presented himself as an apostle to clarify the authority with which he treated difficult moral matters in his letters.

Leadership Lessons

You need to read this entire article by clicking right here! I want to take some points from the article that I think will bless pastors and missionaries. I really enjoyed the article so I hope this only whets your appetite to read the article. Never give up no matter how hard the task seems to get. You started out believing this was God’s will for your life so go for it. The old saying was don’t doubt in the night what God gave you in the light! Keep a spirit of praise.

The Teacher’s Toughest Pupil

Romans 2:21 “Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery?

Learn to compliment

The following is from one of those emails everyone sends out but it is worth reading. I believe that believing in the ones you are training means as much to them as anything else. Read and think! One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then, she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down

Morality, Religion and Recreation Baseball

At a young age I came to the conclusion, not necessarily a true conclusion, that religion and morality were tethered together. Good Christians are good students, good athletes and good citizens. That is what I was taught. Much of what I thought about the Christian life had to do with outward conformity.  Before you believe I am about the Millennial Mantra that goes something like “we are spiritual but hate church and any form of religion,” hang on.

How to Deal with Difficult People

Dave Earley gives 8 things that help us to deal with difficult people: Recognize the “difficult” people in your life or when you are becoming a “difficult” person. Realize that they wont change just because you want them to. Remember that hurt people, hurt people.

He Worketh the Work As I Do

1 Corinthians 16:10-11 “Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do. Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.” Paul was writing to the Corinthian church. He mentions Timothy. He asks them to show him respect because he will be doing the work of the Lord in the same way that Paul did the work of the Lord.

Every Man a Minister

Romans 12:3 “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath deal to every man the measure of faith.” It is easy to get a superiority complex in the ministry, especially when you are in any kind of leadership.  We tend to think that our gifts and abilities are better to others.  We can start thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought to think.

A House Divided

Luke 11:17 “But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house faileth.” Wiktionary says that to “divide and conquer” is: “A combination of political, military and economic strategies that aim to gain and maintain power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy.” Satan is a master divider.  Pride makes us prone to division.  The world tries to get us to rebel and so discord.
