Big workers
Some of the Lord’s workers have grown so big that the least thing offends them; everything must be according to their own way, or they will have nothing to do with it. Spurgeon Check out bcwe.org

A great many learned men are defending the gospel; no doubt it is a very proper and right thing to do, yet I always notice that, when there are most books of that kind, it is because the gospel itself is not being preached. Suppose a number of persons were to take it into their heads that they had to defend a lion, a full-grown king of beasts! There he is in the cage, and here come all the soldiers of the army to fight for him. Well, I should suggest to them, if they would not object, and feel that it was humbling to them, that they should kindly stand back, and open the door, and let the lion out! I believe that would be the best way of defending him, for he would take care of himself; and the best “apology” for the gospel is to let the gospel out. Spurgeon, C. H.
Some of us have thought it our miserable duty to read certain books that have been brought out against the truth, that we might be able to answer them; but it is a perilous calling. The Lord have mercy upon us when we have to go down into these sewers; for the process is not healthy! Spurgeon, C. H. (2005). Exploring the Mind and Heart of the Prince of Preachers: Five-Thousand Illustrations Selected from the Works of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (12–13).
What must it be like to always be playing a game, not really who you say you are? Sooner or later it will all come falling down! I have seen, when I was a boy, a juggler in the street throw up half-a-dozen balls, or knives and plates, and continue throwing and catching them, and to me it seemed marvellous; but the religious juggler beats all others hollow. He has to keep up Christianity and worldliness at the same time, and to catch two sets of balls at once. To be a freeman of Christ and a slave of the world at the same time, must need fine acting. One of these days you, Sir Juggler, will make a slip with one of the balls, and your game will be over
Do much, very much, all you can do, and a little more. “How is that?” says one. I do not think a man is doing all he can do if he is not attempting more than he will complete. Spurgeon, C. H.
The following is taking from Wayne Cordeiro’s book “Doing Church as a Team.” The Greek word for “disciple” ( mathetes ), in fact, comes from the verb manthano , “to learn.” Humility and teachability are the crown jewels of all the qualities of a leader whom God will use in the twenty-first century. When we stop learning, we just stop. Jigoro Kano understood this. He founded the art of judo and became the highest-ranking black belt in this world-renowned sport.
Another devotional from A W Tozer Acts 20:26–27 This is one of the marks of our modern time—that many are guilty of merely “nibbling” at the truth of the Christian gospel. I wonder if you realize that in many ways the preaching of the Word of God is being pulled down to the level of the ignorant and spiritually obtuse; that we must tell stories and jokes and entertain and amuse in order to have a few people in the audience? We do these things that we may have some reputation and that there may be money in the treasury to meet the church bills.… In many churches Christianity has been watered down until the solution is so weak that if it were poison it would not hurt anyone, and if it were medicine it would not cure anyone! Lord, don’t ever let me be guilty of watering down the truth or playing to the crowds, concerned about my “reputation” or “money in the treasury.” Amen. Tozer, A. W.
The following is taken from a message by D L Moody. Read it and enjoy the great grace of the Lord Jesus Christ! I can imagine when Christ said to the little band around Him, ‘Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel,’ Peter said, ‘Lord, do you really mean that we are to go back to Jerusalem and preach the gospel to those men that murdered you?’ ‘Yes,’ said Christ, ‘go, hunt up that man that spat in my face, tell him he may have a seat in my kingdom yet. Yes, Peter, go find that man that made that cruel crown of thorns and placed it on my brow, and tell him I will have a crown ready for him when he comes into my kingdom, and there will be no thorns in it. Hunt up that man that took a reed and brought it down over the cruel thorns, driving them into my brow, and tell him I will put a scepter in his hand, and he shall rule over the nations of the earth, if he will accept salvation.
Over 150 years ago, a revival of incredible proportions shook the country of Ireland, especially the North of Ireland. You can read about the revival as detailed in the Elmer Town’s book, Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, below. Please pray with me that God would send revival again, as we seek Him and obey Him. In September 1857, the same month Jeremiah Lanphier began the Fulton Street Prayer Meeting in New York City, James McQuilkin, a young Irishman, began a prayer meeting in the village schoolhouse near Kells with three other men.
One of my favorite services of the month at our church is called the Goer & Sender Coalition. As you know a coalition is a pact or treaty among individuals or groups, during which they cooperate in joint action. Which is exactly what we believe we have between the GOERS & the SENDERS in our church. We hold this service on the first mid-week service of the month.
