Baby baptizing!

The following story tells of the battle of a man for his conscience and the belief that infants should not be baptized! Gould, Thomas, was famous in the annals of the early Baptists in Eastern Massachusetts for the persecutions he endured on account of his sentiments. He, like thousands in our own day not connected with Baptist churches, questioned the divine authority of infant baptism. Cotton Mather speaks of a “multitude of holy, watchful, faithful, and heavenly people among the first settlers of New England, who had scruples as to infant baptism.” Mr.

What Will It Take to Move You Off Course?

Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” Paul was giving some final words of encouragement to the Ephesian elders prior to his departure to Jerusalem.  He tells them that that he is uncertain about what is going to happen to him in Jerusalem, but, in every city to which he goes, the Holy Ghost is witnessing that bonds and afflictions await him. Even though Paul has been through much persecution and even though he is quite certain that he is headed into much more affliction, he says several remarkable things: None of these things move me. Paul was not going to be moved or affected by the trials and afflication that he was about to face.

Hindrances to God’s Word in Our Lives

Mark 4:14-20 “The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.” I was reading through this parable again, and it struck me that one of the greatest challenges we all face is staying receptive to the Word of God.  The Word of God is powerful and will change our lives, but we must realise that there are some things that will directly hinder the reception and effectiveness of the Word of God in our lives: Satan. Jesus said, “..when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.”  As the father of lies, Satan is intent on stealing the Word of God from us.  He will use any effort to keep us from the Word of God and from letting it take root in our hearts.

Christian dies for beliefs every 5 minutes

The following lines were taken from an article that can be found by clicking here. I want to challenge you to read that article. I wonder if we who live in the comfort of the USA have any idea how much so many suffer for their faith in Christ. Read the article to learn more! The number is shocking. Massimo Introvigne, a human rights representative for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, has told an OSCE meeting in Bodollo, Hungary, that 105,000 people are killed every year because of their Christian faith.

The Truth Has Never Been Popular

Isaiah 38:3-4 “Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it. Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.” Jeremiah is causing quite a stir.  The city of Jerusalem is under siege.  The Babylonian army is trying to come in.  The people inside the city of intent or resisting the attack.  Jeremiah is inside the city heralding God’s message, but the people do not want to hear it.

The Local Church (Part 1)

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 The local church is the key to world evangelism. It is a nonnegotiable factor in our mission as believers to spread the Gospel. If we have a low view of it or if we lack an understanding of its true importance, we will not fulfill the Great Commission. As we observe the deluge of chaos and turmoil overwhelming the world today, it is easy for those who believe the Bible to recognize that the ¨day of the Lord¨ is quickly approaching
