The Local Church (Part 2)

If we do not understand why the church exists, we will never recognize the importance of assembling. Put simply, the purpose of the church is to glorify God and make Him known throughout the world by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; Acts 1:8). We call it “The Great Commission.” This ought to be the church’s greatest concern as it was the last command that the Lord gave before He ascended into heaven (see Acts 1:8-9). All of our time, energy, and resources should be directed to fulfilling this task

Missionary Shock 2

All of the material that you have been seeing on this blog is written in preparation for a book to help train missionaries. It intentionally has the dirty side of what is going on and I hope will present the other side as well. All names and stories have been altered to not be applicable to anyone you might know personally! I love missionaries and nationals. I just want to help us be able to learn and be prepared to do a good work on the field. I was riding down the road one day in that same city with a man who was in charge of a Bible college.

Missionary shock!

One night, I was invited over to the home of a missionary that worked in the area where the national pastor I mentioned in the previous post lived. This missionary had a very bad reputation among the nationals. (his bad reputation had to do with how he treated the nationals) This missionary had a reputation that he didn’t want to preach, and he’d come down there as a mechanic but yet he’d like to take pictures of their churches. And I am in his home and he told me that he didn’t understand how I can fellowship with this guy and how I can preach in his church after what he had done

Dealing with nationals!

The following will not be agreeable to many of you! I do not want to be hurtful but I do think that we need these experiences, however rare they are, to be able to avoid making some mistakes. I love missionaries. I believe in missionaries.

Why Come to OG Camp?

Wow, what a week. After a couple weeks of meetings in LA (the swampy LA, not the glitzy one), we headed up to Fort Bluff TN for the Our Generation youth camp, and it was AMAZING. God really moved and did some amazing things in people’s hearts through the camp. One of our missionaries in Peru, Jeremy Hall, sent his testimony before the camp started, and we were praying for more testimonies like his: It’s hard to believe it has been seven years since the first camp.

Osama Bin Laden: The Death of the Wicked

I think everyone remembers the shock of 9/11. You probably remember where you were, and what you were doing, as well as the progression of thoughts: “Is this real? How did this happen? Who would do this?” I’ll also probably remember the progression of thoughts when I heard the newscast last night that Osama Bin Laden was dead. And I can’t say that I’m very proud of them.

Project SW Europe FAQ #2

I get a lot of questions about what PSWE is and how it is supposed to work, so I have started a FAQ section. If you missed the first one, check it out here . This next question applies to a lot of mission fields, not just SW Europe, and is the subject of a lot of confusion and even argument. Feel free to weigh in, and also to send other questions that you’d like answered! FAQ #2: You want to train European leaders to reach SW Europe, does that mean we don’t need American missionaries there? This tends to be a sore subject among many people: do we invest in cross-cultural missionaries or nationals?

No Longer Able to Blush Over Sin

Jeremiah 6:15 “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.” The heart of the people had become so hardened that when they committed sins that were abominable (absolutely disgusting) to God, they were not at all ashamed neither could they blush. It is wrong to sin and disobey God, but it is even worse when we can sin and not feel bad about it.

Why I Don’t Use the Qur’an

It’s a popular new fad in Muslim Evangelism to walk people through the Qur’an in hopes that they will somehow find the gospel or at least encourage them to read the Bible in addition to their holy book. Simply put, I believe it is as effective as a Muslim trying to walk a believer through the Bible and convince you that Jesus prophecied that Mohammad would come after him with the Qur’an. I personally do not buy into this method for a few simple reasons: 1. I am not a valid resource for teaching the Qur’an: Why?
