I usually put up a disclaimer every time I post a book review, the boilerplate “I liked some stuff. I hated some stuff. Don’t drop my support because I read this book please.” I feel like a book disclaimer would be totally unnecessary in this case. Here’s my only disclaimer: I don’t agree with every doctrine that Tozer espoused, but this is a heart and attitude book, not systematic theology. If you can read “The Pursuit of God” and come away with any other ATTITUDE than being broken over your sinfulness, in awe of God’s power and grace, and being filled with a renewed desire to know your Creator, just go ahead and break fellowship with me.

This book should be in every preacher’s library. I am enjoying it very much and learning so much about where and how I fail to communicate correctly. I want to improve as a preacher.

I highly recommend any thing put out by Lingua House. Click here to go to their order form. This is where you can get the Language Acquisition Made Practical book. If you are a missionary this is a must read book! This is a quote from their web page: Normal language learning is a social experience rather than solely an academic activity. Both language learning and ministry can develop together — from the outset — when carried out within a network of social relationships

“And to make all [men] see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God” Eph 3:9-10 I just finished reading “Stop Dating the Church: Fall in Love With the Family of God” by Joshua Harris. This is a great book about a great theme. So many people are disenfranchised and bitter about something that the powers in Heaven are in awe of: God’s church! We are church-planting missionaries because the local church is what God authored to use in reaching the world, the means through which He loves, calls, and equips.

I just finished a book you definitely should read, “Radical: Taking Back Your Faith”by David Platt Here are a few quotes to wet your appetite: “Jesus wouldn’t really tell us not to bury our father or say good-bye to our family, Jesus didn’t literally mean to sell all we have and give it to the poor. What Jesus really meant was…” And this is where we need to pause. Because we are starting to redefine Christianity. We are going in to the dangerous temptation to take the Jesus of the Bible and twist him into a version of Jesus we are more comfortable with.” You need to commit to obey what you have heard. The gospel does not prompt you to mere reflection; the gospel requires a response

I just finished reading Surprised by Grace by Tullian Tchividjian! Here are several quotes that made the book well worth reading: In seminary I had a professor who referred to the New Testament as the Bible’s footnotes. He meant no disrespect; he knew that the New Testament is just as inspired and trustworthy and infallible as the Old. He was simply saying in a different way what Augustine said centuries earlier-that the New Testament is contained in the Old, and the Old Testament is explained in the New.

I just finished reading Leaders Who Last [Kindle Edition] Dave Kraft (Author) Here are some quotes that will make you want to read this book: Followers don’t do what leaders say as much as they do what leaders do. The author wrote an article entitled “Seven Habits of Highly Ineffective Leaders,” a satire based on Stephen Covey’s book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Here’s the list: They spend too much time managing and not enough time leading. They spend too much time counseling the hurting people and not enough time developing the people with potential.

Buy the book here! This is a must read book! Here are a few quotes to make you go buy the book. Legalism is seeking to achieve forgiveness from God and acceptance by God through obedience to God. Thomas Schreiner writes that “legalism has its origin in self-worship. If people are justified through their obedience to the law, then they merit praise, honor, and glory. Legalism, in other words, means the glory goes to the people rather than God.” Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself

I just finished reading Radical,Taking Back Your Faith by David Platt. I think that it is a book every Christian should read. We call it radical but it is really just Biblical Christianity. Here is an excerpt that I hope will motivate you to get the book: At the end of Luke 9, we find a story about three men who approached Jesus, eager to follow him. In surprising fashion, though, Jesus seems to have tried to talk them out of doing so

I joined a service online where I pay a subscription fee and get two audio books a month then a percentage off any I decide to buy. It has been a great service for me personally. Often when I get home from work, the evenings are packed with spending time with my wife over dinner and studying my Bible that it becomes difficult to focus when reading a book. With these audio books, I am able to “read” while I am at work. It has done a couple things for me
