The following material that is being quoted is taken from here! At the Our Generation Training Center we have all of our students spend 6 months living and studying overseas. I think that there is much to be gleaned from the following article! The American bubble that is mentioned is a great danger. The spending so much on time communicating back to the states and home is also a great danger. I am afraid that this modern technology can make it harder to adapt to the new culture and your new home

The following ideas are taken from this blog here! You will find much more information there and you should click on the link and go there. Learning the language is your most important tool for the work that God has for you when you arrive on the mission field. You must have the mindset that you are never done with language acquisition/culture learning.

God has called us to reach beyond the boarders of the USA with the gospel. So many Christians have never left their comforts to travel abroad and serve on the mission field. Now is your chance! Throughout 2012 we will be hosting college interns in Santiago, Chile. This experience will give you hands-on training in church planting, language learning, and culture adaptation

Read this article Becoming a Man of the World: How to Learn Another Language for some good insight on how to learn a language. All missionaries are going to have to learn how to live cross culturally. Many will have to learn another language. Excuses abound. You can learn another language! Here are some quotes from the article for you to consider: Men are excellent language learners, and there are ways we can use our manly differences to our advantage

Monday afternoon, a group of abut 40 missionaries from around the world met in a small lodge in Dahlonega, GA. These men and women have been to the far corners of the Earth preaching the Gospel and are getting these done. This week is a time of reflection and refreshment to young guys like me just getting started in the field of missions. You can imagine that a guy just getting started might have a lot of questions about deputation, church planting, discipleship, cultural adaptation, language learning and a slew of other things

Dear Praying Friends, February has gone by faster than we could have believed possible: I actually had to stop and think about where I was writing this from! We are in snowy Detroit, by way of coal country in southern OH, the mountains of the Carolinas, and just two weeks ago, sunny Florida! Please keep travel safety in your prayers, as we still have a missions conference in Illinois before we finally head home. This has been an exciting trip for man reasons, we have picked up 3 new supporting churches, reconnected with old friends, met many wonderful people (including a lady from Barcelona), and have been able to encourage Christians to invest their lives in God’s plan for His people: the Great Commission. But the most exciting thing was that we saw three souls accept Christ as their Savior on this trip! We are currently at 23% of our needed support, with many churches having promised to get behind our ministry financially later in the year, so we are right on track to set foot in Barcelona in the Fall of 2012! It has been amazing to see God touch hearts and open doors these past few months.

When a new missionary arrives on the field he should have in mind what he needs and wants to accomplish in his first term. I would like to share a few ideas about what that might be and then ask you to add more to it or disagree with me in the comment section. Learn the language and the culture well. You can not learn the language without the culture and you can not learn the culture without the language.
