May 2010 Prayer Letter

Dear Pastor and Praying Friends: Well, we have had some exciting happenings since our last prayer letter. First of all, both Bekah and I have officially finished language school! That is not to say that we do not still have much to learn. In fact, some days it feels as if we should go back to the beginning and start over! This will give us four more hours every day that we can devote to ministry and training. Please pray that the Lord will help us to continue to learn and eventually become fluent. Secondly, and even more exciting, I have had the opportunity to baptize two young ladies over the past few weeks.

Be. Do. Serve. Train

Be. Do. Serve. Train

The majority of the people who read my blog know or have a pretty good idea what the title “be. do. serve. train” means to our ministry. It is our basic philosophy of discipleship, which means  it is our basic philosophy of ministry.

Fruits Worthy of Repentance

Fruits Worthy of Repentance

Luke 3:8 “Bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.”  John the Baptist is preaching the need to prepare for the Lord’s coming, to get right with God, and to repent of sin.  Before grace and salvation can come, repentance must make our hearts ready to receive Christ’s salvation.  As He preaches, John tell them to show forth truth repentance.  True repentance is a change of heart and mind about our sin and about Jesus that will lead to a changed life. God wants us to bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, not to just say, “O, we are sorry for our sin.”  The people were saying, “We have Abraham for our father.”  They thought because they were decendants of Abraham and Jews that this made them right with God.  Many people today, think that being a Protestant, Catholic, Christian, Muslim, Jew, religious person, “good” person, or church-goer makes them right with God.  Only true repentance that produces fruit will  lead to being right with God. How can we know if we have trully repented?  What are some fruits that are worthy of repentance?  For the people, it was being willing to give to the poor (Luke 3:10-11).  For the tax collectors, it was to take no more than they should from the people (Luke 3:12-13).  For the soldiers, it was do violence to no man, accuse no man falsely, and be content with their wages (Luke 3:14).  These were signs of true repentance. Giving to the poor, being honest, being kind, and being content are not things we do to get to Heaven, however, if you say you have repented of your sins and believed on Jesus and there is no change in your life and behavior, then you need to seriously examine yourself to see if you have truly repented and been saved! The Freedom Scale 6

The Freedom Scale 1 Freedom Scale 2 The Freedom Scale 3 The Freedom Scale 4 The Freedom Scale 5 There are a few keys to the long-term progress of these countries up the ladder of the Freedom Scale: 1. Bold National Believers For each level there will be different consquences but the need is for believers willing to die for their faith. If we will be faithful to teach the Word the disciples will grow in their boldness. We do not force or even push a disciple of Christ to take a public stand with his faith. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit must do the pushing.

Are You Genuinely Saved?

Are You Genuinely Saved?

Matthew 7:21 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” It is very sobering to think that there are those who profess to be Christians yet they are not genuinely saved. We must make sure that we are not just doing good works in Christ’s name and calling Christ Lord. Are we doing the will of the Father?

Overcoming Temptation

Overcoming Temptation

Matthew 4:1 “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” Jesus goes through some very severe persecution in this chapter. Satan tempts Him with the lust of the flesh, the pride of life, and the lust of the eyes. This all takes place after Jesus has been fasting for forty days and forty nights. He physically is at a very weak state. In this passage, we notice several things about temptation: 1
