The Impact of a Short Term Missions Trip

During this year’s OG Summit I taught a class on Short Term Mission Trips.  I wanted Missionary Matt Allen to take a few minutes and speak about his field in person, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to because he was teaching another class at the same time.  Instead, he wrote out a testimony that I have placed below that really touched my heart.  He also wanted me to let others know that currently, from people visiting him on the field, there are 6 families on deputation who are raising support for Papua New Guinea, and two more that are starting this year

Passing the Baton of Faith to the Next Generation

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deuteronomy 6:20-23 “And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?  Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.” One of the biggest responsibilities that we have in life is to pass the truth about God to the next generation.  Notice several things we learn from these verses about passing the baton of faith to the next generation: The Word of God must be in our heart. Before they can teach their children, they had to have God’s Word in their heart.  The key to changing our children is changing us.

The 11 Commandments of Missions

My pastor send me this and I wanted to pass it along. William Carey and his team set forth principles that still guide us today in mission work. Here are excerpts from the “Form of Agreement” drafted by Carey and his colleagues in October 1805. The Redeemer, in planting us in this heathen nation, rather than in any other, has imposed upon us the cultivation of peculiar qualifications. Upon these points we think it right to fix our serious and abiding attention

Right Idea, Wrong Time

Numbers 14:40-45 “And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned. 41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper. 42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies. 43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you. 44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.” When God told the Israelites to go up into the Promised Land, they were afraid and did not want to go up.  They rebelled against the Lord and refused to go up.  When God told them that they would wander in the wilderness for forty years because of their rebellion, then they decided to go up without the Lord’s blessing.  Their efforts were resisted, and they failed because the time had passed and God was not with them

Walking away at crunch time – part 2

Are you serious?  Could you possibly be inferring that Latin America doesn’t need anymore missionaries?  Should we celebrate and retire because our job is done in Latin America? The above picture is actually from the back of a prayer card I picked up from a fellow missionary at a conference a few months ago.  Not surprisingly, his ministry focuses on the 10/40 window.

Things to consider about our youth and children’s ministry

I will be taking some excerpt from an article found here! I thought the open letter was well written and respectful. I am not qualified to get into the discussion between the men here. I simply thought as I read the article, how does this apply to me and the ministry that God has called me to lead.

this man was really stupid

I sometimes think I might have been in darkness and despair until now had it not been for the goodness of God in sending a snowstorm, one Sunday morning, while I was going to a certain place of worship. When I could go no further, I turned down a side street, and came to a little Primitive Methodist Chapel. In that chapel there may have been a dozen or fifteen people. I had heard of the Primitive Methodists, how they sang so loudly that they made people’s heads ache; but that did not matter to me
