One of the hardest misconceptions to break in missions is that missionaries are somehow superhuman extraordinary people. I think I do my part in breaking that misconception pretty well: all I have to do is show up in a church and they no longer think missionaries are special… OK, maybe special ED. I enjoy going to the dry cleaners probably more than most: not because I enjoy paying half the price of my suit just to have it cleaned, but because my dry cleaner is a Christian. The first time I went to his store, I invited him to church. His response was AWESOME: “That’s great, I love Jesus too!” The first visit was about 5 minutes of conversation, the next about 10, and yesterday it turned into about an hour.

If you are like me, you have two questions about Johannes Kepler: 1. Why is he holding chopsticks in that portrait? And more importantly… 2. What would 17th century German scientists think about modern issues? One of the great tools that we have in communicating with people in missions is Facebook, and other social networking

The following was in this weeks reading for the students in the Our Generation Training Center. I thought it was a wonderful challenge to all of us desiring to be servants. This does not only apply to missionaries but to all of us serving the King. Missionaries should value achieving a spirit of servanthood as a high ideal and goal. Paul often presented himself as an apostle to clarify the authority with which he treated difficult moral matters in his letters.

Dear Praying Friends, Well, the 3 month road-trip is just about over, and we are looking forward to spending a few weeks close to home around Thanksgiving. October was a busy month with 13 meetings between NC, FL, TX, and OH! We have added 3 confirmed new partnering churches, and several more waiting Faith Promise commitments. Praise the Lord for His provision! God has really been teaching me to trust His purpose: if He made sure Jonah got to Nineveh when he didn’t even want to go, I’m pretty sure He’ll get us to Spain when we are hungry to get there and preach the Gospel! PLUG IN: I wanted to make sure to let you know about three of the best days on our calendar: Dec 29-31 of every year, Vision Baptist Church hosts the Our Generation Summit in Pigeon Forge TN. The Summit is for every Christian with a heart for missions, and is geared toward helping people of all ages, abilities, and occupations get plugged into world missions on a deeper level as a goer or sender. I could fill page after page with testimonies of people (including my own) whose lives have been affected in incredible ways from this event, but I’d rather see you come and have your own testimony! If you’d like more information about it, you can call me or visit www.bcwe.org . If you would like to come and cannot afford the registration fee, I’d love to take care of it for you.

If you were going to sum up the purpose of human existence in ONE SENTENCE… What would you come up with? It’s the ultimate question, according to most people: “Why am I here?” If you ask most people in the world, the most common answers seem to be: I have no idea? Be a good person. Enjoy yourself! Most Christians would know enough Bible to say that the third answer is wrong, but it blows me away how many would come up with some variation of #1 or #2! Of course, we all know the Sunday School answer of, “the reason I am here is to glorify God”, but if you ask what that REALLY MEANS, you come full circle to #1: “I have no idea”.
