Raising Radical Kids

We are currently in our third back-to-back missions conference (whew!), Cornerstone Baptist Temple in Dayton OH, and we are staying with some pretty amazing people. One of the awesome things about deputation is that we often stay in homes of church members. We have not only made great friends this way, but we also get [...]

both/and not either/or

Some people are single focused missionaries.  They think about and promote their field and only their field.  After reading Walking Away at Crunch Time  and Death by Bullet or Antifreeze , you might think I’m one of those single focused guys, but that could not be further from the truth. Missions is not an either/or proposition.  Missions is a both/and proposition.

Death by bullet or antifreeze

A few years back a lady in my home town was convicted of murdering two men.  Her weapon of choice was antifreeze.  Death by antifreeze is slow and virtually undetectable by the victim.   Its sweet taste makes an easy cover to disguise the poison.  She slowly added antifreeze to the food of both her victims, until they were dead!  A bullet is a completely different story.

Missionaries Needed for South Sudan

South Sudan became the world’s newest country on July 9, 2011. For more information on that you can read A New Flag Raised: South Sudan Celebrates Birth by clicking on it! I got the following notes from missionary Keith Shumaker who serves in Burkina Faso. As most of you know, I had the unique opportunity to go to South Sudan. South Sudan is the newest country in the world. They got their independence in July.

Good Excuse to Miss the Summit #1: Zombies

If you read this blog for any period of time at all (yes, I’m talking to YOU mom!), you will probably remember the Our Generation Missions Summit being mentioned pretty frequently. The Summit is a yearly event hosted by Vision Baptist Church (our sending church) in Gatlinburg TN, and essentially it is a gathering of like minded Christians who have a passion to see this world evangelized in our generation. That doesn’t mean that we think that the entire world is going to accept Christ, just that we believe it is our duty and privilege as Christians to dedicate our lives so that everyone hears the Gospel, and we absolutely believe that is possible! Imagine a multi-church missions conference with reports of what God is doing in China, Ireland, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, India, Thailand, Spain, North Africa, South Africa, Egypt, Burkina Faso, and more, combined with a crash course week of intense global evangelism training for every church member. Every year we work hard at getting the word out about the Summit, because every year we see first time attenders walk away transformed by a global vision for God’s fame, and that’s just addictive! The Summit will be held December 29-31.

White flight, Racism, and Missions

Some years ago an African-American pastor’s wife from Atlanta visited us in Chile.  Her husband pastored a church just miles from my old elementary school.  During the 90s, my family and most of our friends left the area opting for a less “urban” environment in the suburbs. As we discussed my own history in the south-Atlanta area, the pastor’s wife laughed and said, “We call that white-flight!”  Puzzled at the new term, I asked her to explain.  She said all blacks know that whites start getting nervous when blacks began to move into a neighborhood, and eventually the whites move… all of them move. I, on the other hand, have been on the other side of those conversations and heard the anxious remarks about the increasing minority population.  I knew what she was saying was right. I’m not going to get into the whole socioeconomic discussion, but I do want to talk about racism! Here are some random thoughts about God, the Bible, and racism: All men and women are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).  How can we belittle an image bearer of God?  The fact that they are bearing His image means they have infinite worth.

“Holy War” vs “Holy Discontent”

The following article is taken from  Soeren Kern , writer for Hudson NY.  Please take the time to read this, this is shocking stuff about Spain. Islam is growing at a much more rapid pace than Evangelical Christianity , and there is a reason! Muslim people are passionate about spreading their belief system, and their passion means that they are willing to sacrifice their time, their energy, their money, and even their lives to that end. What if we looked at a country where nearly 99% of the population either reject the Gospel, or more likely have NEVER HEARD it, and that sparked a passion to see Christ lifted up there? What if there was a holy discontent at 47 million people who worship wealth, success, Mohammed, the Virgin Mary….. everything but Jesus Christ

No Jobs… But No Hope?

According to CNN and Trading Economics , Spain now sits at number 3 in the list of the world’s worst unemployment rates, at a staggering 21.3%. Only South Africa and Angola have a worse rate of employment. Thousands take to the streets in protest seemingly every week, as the Spanish economic train-wreck rolls on.

Voice in the Villages Advancement in India

The pictures illustrate the importance of team work in a big project. There are places you will go and heights you can reach that you could never go to or reach alone. Pray about joining the team going and sending to northern India.

Voice in the Villages

We are looking for help to get material into the hands of unreached people groups. We are talking about people that do not have access to the Internet or other means of getting material and help. Many have already heard the gospel or have interest in the gospel. They need help
