He Worketh the Work As I Do

1 Corinthians 16:10-11 “Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do. Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.”

Paul was writing to the Corinthian church. He mentions Timothy. He asks them to show him respect because he will be doing the work of the Lord in the same way that Paul did the work of the Lord. He asks that they would be kind to Timothy and treat him well.

The phrase that I noticed today was “he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.” Timothy had been around Paul a long time. He had learned Paul’s way of doing things. 2 Timothy 3:10 tells us that Timothy fully knew Paul’s doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, persecutions, and afflictions.

When Timothy came to the people, he would continue on the work that Paul started because he had learned from Paul. Paul even said of Timothy in Philippians 2:20, “I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.”

My question for you and me is, “Who is influencing us?” Someone will influence us. Someone will be our model for life and ministry. We cannot help but be impacted by those we are around. We should, therefore, choose carefully who we listen to and who we spend time with because we will be influenced by them.

We are becoming like someone, so let us be certain that we have the right role models. Also, others are watching and learning good or bad from our lives. Let us set the right example for them.
