The Junction Unction
I have a good friend of mine who started a church in Grand Junction, CO. I have been receiving his devotional thoughts for some time and believe in what he is doing. Would you prayerfully read the letter and ask God if He would have you help. He is Pastor Chris Hanks and I believe this will be a blessing to many. Thank you so much.
Dear Pastor,
I am writing this letter to ask you to pray about partnering with me in publishing a new devotional book entitled “Morning Manna: a devotional help and Bible study guide for the pulpit and the pew.” You know that there are very few reliable authors that we can endorse that only use the King James Version and are Baptist in their doctrine. In many ways, the Baptist pen has become silent.
A few years I ago, I began to write a devotion each morning that was sent out by e-mail to the people in our church. As I followed a plan to read the Bible through in a year, I chose one verse from that day’s reading, outlined it and commented on its subject and thought. Each devotion is followed by a category that lists the topics that are discussed. In the Index of the book, each topic will be cross-referenced to provide ease in finding supporting devotions. Over time, this devotion grew in audience to include members from other churches, missionaries, evangelists and pastors. When some asked me to put them in book form, I really did not take the thought seriously. Others began to inquire and I began to pray about this possibility. Then Lord burdened my heart about following through in this endeavor.
On May 19th, VMI Publishers approved my manuscript for publication. VMI is a full-service publisher with professional typesetting, editing, cover design, and will advertise, market, and distribute the books once they are published.
In this agreement, I must buy 1,000 copies of the book. The project will cost me right at $12,000. The publisher has mentioned that the book will retail for $15.99. As the author, they will give me a consid-erable discount on the copies that I am to buy. I already have $5,500 towards the printing of the book which leaves me $6,500 left to raise. One pastor wanted to help with this project so he pre-bought the books that I will send to him once the printing is completed. If you would like to do this, I will pre-sell them at $13 per book plus shipping and handling. That is almost a 20% discount.
I would be honored if you and your church would like to partner with me in this project. If you feel the Lord leading you this way, please let me know. My home number is 970.523.7127 and my cell is 970.640.2497. The address is 2876 B Rd. Grand Junction, CO 81503.
It may not be possible for you to help at this time. If you cannot, I would appreciate your prayers con-cerning the book. If you would like to help at a later date, please let me know.
Enclosed are five days of the devotions for your review.
In His Service,
Pastor R. Chris Hanks
