First Impression on the Phone
Travis Campbell left this year to start a church in LA. God has greatly used him and they are seeing souls saved and people visit this new church. He recently sent me an email that encourage me, and, I think, sends a warning out to those who are scheduling meeting today. Please be sure to introduce yourself, give your home church, pastor, mission board, field of service and deputation director (just kidding of course! Just seeing if you are reading this!) In the first few seconds you need to give the pastor something he can connect with. You, your church, your pastor, Macedonia, something. Many times the pastor will ask you questions that cover all the answers you just gave him but something had to click to get his attention. I fear some get discouraged calling because they are not doing it correctly. Smile while you talk. Have a positive attitude and be excited. It has a way of transferring to the other side.
Thank you Bro. Travis for sending this:
Hello Bro. Howeth,
Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know to keep up the good work you’re doing trainingMacedonia missionaries. I know that I don’t say that enough to you. I guess I have appreciated this even more the last couple of days. I wanted to let you know about it. I have started receiving some missionary phone calls wanting to schedule meetings in our new church. Just a couple, and none fromMacedonia guys. Anyway, of the two calls that I have received, neither missionary has told me the field of service he is going to or what board he is with. One of them told me his sending church, the other didn’t. It would seem to me that if a missionary wanted a pastor to share a burden about a field, he is going to have to inform the pastor of the field he is going to. All these guys seemed to want was a meeting. I know that these two phone calls do not make for a wealth of knowledge or experience, but I just found it shocking that a missionary would call a pastor and try to schedule a meeting and never even tell that pastor where God had called him to.
Love you men. May God continue to use you greatly.
Bro. Tony
