Steps To Helping People Around You
In our lives, we must be careful to focus on individuals instead of crowds. In Matthew 20:29-30 it states, “And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. Though He was followed by a large crowd, he focused on two blind men. Do we get so “big” by a crowd following us that we no longer have time for the “small” people? Some things that may help:
1. Focus on individuals instead of crowds. (already stated above)
2. Listen sincerely to the needs of others. (Matthew 20:32)”And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you. Do we acknowledge what the other person is saying or do we have to be the center of every conversation? Give a response to others to know that you are really hearing them.
3. Take time for others. (Matthew 20:32) “And Jesus stood still…” This is amazing that the creator of the universe stands still for His creation. We think that we are so busy that we just “can’t stop”, yet God stood still when two men cried out to Him. Are you so important that you do not have time for others?
4. Determine the needs of others. (Matthew 20:31) “And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but the cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.” It does not take much to rebuke, judge and criticize but it takes love and patience to figure out what the real needs are in a situation. That which is on the surface is only a indicator of that which lies deeper.
5. Empathize with others. (Matthew 20:34) “So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.” Are we willing to hurt with those that hurt? Weep with those that weep? Are we willing to have compassion on them? Will out attitude be they got what they deserve? Will those hurting be just a nuisance to you? Will they be just some “beggar” that is getting in the way of you getting something “important” done?
6. Minister to others where they are hurting. In this story Jesus touched their eyes. Who in your fold has eye trouble? Ear trouble? Heart trouble? Mouth trouble? What area of their life is hurting and needs attention. Will you help them?
May God bless you all greatly as you represent Him in the lives of others.
