Apollos – The Man with a Teachable Spirit
God challenged my heart this year with evaluating last year. Did I learn anything? Was I teachable? Did I have the right spirit when talked to? Was I reading enough? Studying enough? Preparing enough? With those thoughts going through my mind I come across a man that intrigues me. Over the next couple of days, I want to share some things from his life that will help us in ours.
Acts 18:24-28
Notice several facts about this man:
- He came from a cultured city (Alexandria – vs 24) but did not allow that to make him think too highly of himself.
- He was an educated (eloquent man – vs 24) man but did not let that keep him from understanding he needed to learn more.
- He knew the scriptures (mighty in the Scriptures – vs 24) well but did not allow that to make him prideful.
- He had been taught the Christian faith (instructed in the way of the Lord – vs 25)
- He had an obvious gift. (being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently – vs 25)
- He was accurate with Old Testament truth. (taught diligently = accurately – vs 25)
- He taught truth passionately. (speak boldly – vs 26)
- One could say that he was successful, yet that success did not limit him in learning. Tomorrow I will share with you what I mean.
