Orientation and Goals
Our Orientation classes for 2008 began Monday. We will continue through Friday with classes on deputation, spiritual warfare, church planting, how to survey your city, finances, marriage, child rearing and more. It is an intensive week with much information. Knowing that a three day or week long seminar will not be enough, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Macedonia to continually train missionaries on deputation for the field.
As we train and equip the missionary, it is with a goal in mind. The Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let me share some things about goals that God spoke to my heart about in these verses.
1. Paul did not grow comfortable where he was. (I count not myself to have apprehended…) He never felt as though he had arrived. Friend have you grown comfortable where you are in your ministry, marriage, spiritual life?
2. Paul kept focus on one thing. (…but this one thing I do…) You can go in so many directions that you never arrive at the destination. What focus do you have?
3. Paul did not allow success or failure from keeping him from his goal. (…forgetting those things which are behind…) With failure you get discouraged and success can bring pride. Be careful of both extremes.
4. Paul constantly kept a goal in his life. (…and reaching forth unto those things which are before…) Did you “used to” have goals?
5. Paul knew what his goal was. (I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus) What is your goal?
6. Paul was willing to work for and toward his goal. (I press toward the mark…) How hard are you working to accomplish what God has put on your heart?
