Bro. Cheesehead
This is from a great friend of mine, Aaron Short going to Wisconsin. It is powerful and real.
Dear Brother Tony,
Hope all your meetings are going well. I really don’t know where to start. We was about to get home from a long road trip when I recieved one of those calls. After Church Wednesday the news came that my grandmother had passed away. My head seems a little cloudy with all that has went on the past few weeks. We had talked about Orientation and some of the new men are not sure about the cost for the week. Given the recent death in our family I asked my self a question. It is found in James 4:14 For what is your life? Considering this I wonder what is my life? James said it was a vapour, but if the morrow did not come what would be said? He served God as long as it did not require alot of money. Maybe, he served God as long as it was not to great an inconvenience. Would to God it could be said, he pleased God! I read in a book that if we ( missionaries) are not willing to invest in our minsitry, why should we expect someone else too? That same book said we should count the cost. During Orientation I learned I was not the only one who sacrificed time and money, but the veteran missionaries too. Many came from a great distance just to offer advice to us rookies.
Some things I have learned from Orientation;
1. Live by faith. Yes this is a given. We often want Churches to give by faith, yet we ourselves never want to trust God. It was Brother Tony Howeth that said in one class ” Can you not pray down some money? The charismatics spend thousands on buildings, do we think God is unable to give us a few hundred?”
2. Pray. Pray for others. Pray for God’s power. Pray to be used of God to reach others.
3. Give. Give yourself. This is your money, time, and often your ears.
4.Commitment. Do you want to be one of those that stayed a year on the field, or the one who died on the field? The difference is commitment.
While recently at Gettysburg,Pa I heard the story of a soilder who was struck by a bullet and before he drew his last breath, he
wrote a note to his father. The note said “I died with my face to the enemy”.
I am a nobody, yet happy am I for choosing to invest my time and money to more effectively invest myself in others! For what is your life?
May God Bless you this day my Borther.
His for His good pleasure,
Bro. Cheesehead
