Proverb of the Day
One practice I have for reading is to read the proverb of the day. Using a reading plan usually means that you start at chapter one and read a chapter or two a day. The problem is that you get out of the habit quick then restart, usually back at chapter one. You never feel like you get very far. Reading the proverb of the day means that the date of the day (like the 12th) means that you would read Proverbs 12 for that day. You will be amazed at how appropriate the instructions from the proverb are for that day.
If you discipline yourself and read the proverb of the day, then three great things will happen!
1. You will gain tremendous wisdom from the Proverbs that will guide you through the day.
2. You will read the book of Proverbs through 12 times in a year.
3. You will always know the date. (threw that one in for good measure)
Dont forget to put the Our Generation Summit on your calendar. It will be in Gatlinburg on the same days in December of this year that you read Proverbs 27, 28 and 29.
Excelente post, yo hago lo mismo, leo un capítulo de proverbios en la mañana para sabiduría y mi devocional normal y en la noche leo un capitulo de salmos antes de dormir.
Alonso Montenegro is the Pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Arequipa Peru. He works with Austin’s son Chris.
His comment in English: “Excellent post. I do the same, I read a chapter of proverbs in the mornign for wisdom and my normal devotion at night I read a chapter of Psalms before going to sleep.”
Here is what I did in my devotions today. It might serve as an example so someone who is not yet understanding what you mean. I read several chapters and turned several things that I read into prayers.
Exo 9:16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
The desire you express on so many pages of the Bible always gets my attention. I want your name declared throughout all the earth because I believe it is what you want to happen. I ask you to allow me to be part of that. Help me as a pastor to honor you with what you desire. Help me to inspire our people to do this. I know that it is what you want. I know that I can not do anything of value for you unless you do it through me so here I am asking you to use me to honor and glorify yourself.
You raised up Pharaoh to show your power and to make your name be declared. God would you use us now. God would you bless the Summit. God would you bless our churches. God would you do through us great things that would make the name of the Lord Jesus to be declared throughout all the earth.
Exo 10:2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.
I know that you want us to know that you are the Lord–the true and only God of the universe. God I want to see your hand and your power in my life. I want to see you build your work and glorify yourself. I am asking you to show your power in my life, the church and the lives of your people. Even in the time that you were cursing the lost you were taking care of your people. God right now your people that have sacrificed so much for you and your causes are suffering also in this crisis. The missionaries are suffering, the businessmen are suffering, the churches are suffering. Could you show us you are God by protecting your people and blessing them in spite of what the world is going through right now.
Exo 13:17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
Help me to be strong enough not to turn back when I see war and problems. I know that they can, have and do discourage me but I want to be strong in you to do what is right.
Mat 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
God help me to believe you and to not hinder what you want to do in my life or ministry by my unbelief. I know that so many times I doubt you and wonder if you are going to do things and I am so sorry. I believe, help my unbelief.
